| How do I market myself to college programs? |
|
- Send an initial interest
letter and athletic resume
to the coach in sophomore or junior year. The letter should
include:
- Academic credentials.
- A high school schedule, summer schedule, and list of camps
that the student will be attending.
- A team roster, as the coach may know of some of the other
players on the team and that may help him or her.
- A good videotape will include:
- 10 to 15 minutes of unedited game film.
- Some highlight clips.
- A skills tape. For field players, that consists of:
- Receiving, both in the air and on the ground.
- Distributing, different types.
- Shooting, both power and finesse.
- Dribbling.
- Agility with the ball, how fast in a straight line
and how fast going 30 yards in and out of 6 cones.
- For a goalie that consists of:
- Crosses and shot stopping.
- Footwork.
- Verbal communication in a game situation.
- It is important for a student to play club/premier/ODP to
garner attention from college coaches.
- A Club team should put together an informational booklet about
the athletes on the team for college coaches, if they do not,
it is suggested that the parents take the initiative.
- Summer camps are a great way to increase visibility to college
coaches. If the student is really interested in a school, attend
their summer camp. While at the camp, the student should make
it known that she is interested in attending that school.
