Sample Letters of Inquiry to College Coaches
Below are two sample letters of inquiry to college coaches. Your
initial packet should consist of a letter, an athletic resume,
and an academic resume. You can hold off on the video until you
know the coach wants to look at it. One thing we have been doing
with our students is posting their recruiting videos on YouTube,
so coaches can view it online and we don't have to incur the postage.
Keep in mind that if you are looking to apply to more competitve
colleges, you will also want to include your SAT scores as well
as your GPA. These coaches do not want to waste their time contacting
you if they do not feel that they can get you in. Remember, that
college coaches don't necessarily recruit the best players, they
recruit the best players that they know they can get. So, if you
are interested in majoring in business and you send a letter of
inquiry to a coach at a business school, let them know you want
to major in business. It will excite them to know that you are
a legitimate prospect for them. At the more competitive colleges
coaches will usually only rank you high on their list and exert
influence with the admissions office if you apply early decision.
They only receive a limited number of enrollment slots, and if
you apply early, they know they will get you. A coach does not
want to waste one of her slots on a student who might not attend
her school.
